Hybrid System

A combination of Grid Tie and Off Grid System.

When a typical residential or small office system consume most of the power during the day, an ESS system will be a viable option to install.

In the case when peak loads are early morning or late afternoon, the system can provide energy savings by means of the stored energy that was produced during the day and stored in a battery pack.

An ESS System is a combination of Off-Grid or Back-up and Grid Tied system. The Inverter is connected to the AC Grid and can Function as an Off-Grid Inverter to provide back-up power to the essential equipment of the installation during power outages.

The various ESS equipment of the system is controlled by an intelligent controller and the settings for the controller can be customised to suit the specific load profile of the installation and/or requirements of the client. When the power supply is healthy and if the system is designed to produce surplus power, this surplus energy can be exported to the grid, but only authorised by the Local Authority.

Priority will be to charge the battery and once the battery is fully charged, the system will produce surplus energy. This surplus energy can be exported to the grid for credits on the monthly electricity bill or can be used for own consumption by the nonessentials or AC Loads.

The rate of the credits will be defined by the Local Authority and can vary depending on the rates approved by the various Local Authority. Therefore, the ESS system not only provides back-up power, but can also save onmonthly electricity Bill.

The amount of surplus power generated is depending on the design of the system comparing to the consumption of power during sun hours.

No Power Failure

No power failure during load shedding for essential equipment, during daytime the 2 hours can be extended to about 8 hours or more when PV Array complete with a Solar Charger/Regulator is added.

Save Money

Saving cost on power generated by the system – function as Grid-Tie System once batteries is fully charged the surplus energy can be used:
o To be exported for credits (if approved by Local Authority)
o To be used for own consumption by AC Loads (Non-Essentials)

System Lifetime Gaurantee of 10 Years

The system is designed to last at least 10 years – Lithium batteries is warranted for 10 years, the Inverter warrantee can be extended to 10 years at 10% of cost, 10 years manufacturing warrantee on the Canadian Solar Panels with an efficiency guaranteed of 86% after 25 years.

Minimum Maintenance

Minimum maintenance is required if Lithium Batteries are used, but for Flooded Lead Acid Batteries, an extensive maintenance program is required. This maintenance program or service agreement is available if required to maintain the system.

Tax Deductible

The system is tax-deductible and savings is directly related to the annual increase of Eskom – this year was 15% compare to the interest of savings account around 11% only.
